Full Description
A banked linear feature to the southwest of Knowlton is faintly visible on current Lidar imagery (1).
The feature is broad and slightly curvilinear in form. It spans a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map; some of the boundaries of this enclosure may have a medieval origin but others appear more rectilinear in form suggesting probable post medieval reorganisation (2). The feature runs parallel to a historic field boundary to its southeast which is likely to be post medieval in date (1 and 2).
The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable medieval or post medieval origin, although, given its location and proximity to the late prehistoric landscape at Knowlton, it is possible it is earlier in origin.
The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
