Full Description
A loose cluster of small sub-circular and sub-rectangular earthworks on the south side of Canford Heath are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1-2).
The features comprise a range of banked and ditched sub-circular and sub-rectangular earthworks between 5m and 7m in size. The features may be military in origin, perhaps small dug-outs or waepons pits or defensive enclosures of some description. The features may be associated with an area of possible wartime military training activity; there are further groups of similar features spread across the heathland to the north, west and east.
The site is still open heath on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP.
