Summary

Parallel ditched linear features in a field to the northeast of Bear Wood are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. Full Description

Parallel ditched linear features in a field to the northeast of Bear Wood are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features are faint and indistinct but appear to comprise straight parallel southwest to northeast aligned ditches, around 2m wide and set between 5m and 6m apart and running towards the banks of the River Stour. The features may be cultivation marks, perhaps those of medieval ridge and furrow; there is a possible plough headland on the southwest side. Alternatively they may be post medieval drainage ditches. The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the features are still faintly visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
