Full Description
A probable post medieval gravel pit to the south of Hampreston is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises an irregular linear scarp around 51.6m long and 29m deep, situated on the edge of the north bank of the River Stour. The feature may be a small extractive pit associated with post medieval gravel extraction; there are further similar features along this section of the River Stour.
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery. The feature was still faintly visible in 2002 (2). It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
