Full Description
A probable post medieval gravel pit to the southeast of Hampreston is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is situated on the edge of the northeast bank of the River Stour and comprises an irregular ditched depression up to 37m long and up to 22.4m wide. The feature may be a small extractive pit associated with post medieval gravel extraction; there are further similar features along this section of the River Stour.
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery. The feature is still faintly visible as a shallow scar. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
