Monument record MDO41284 - Possible prehistoric ring-ditches, Hampreston, Ferndown Town
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A sub-circular ditched feature in a field to the northeast of Hampreston is visible as a cropmark on a 2002 aerial photograph. The feature is one of four situated within a broad spread of fairy rings and it is likely these features are part of that formation but their character is possibly more archaeological in nature and they may be ring ditches of possibly late prehistoric origin. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description
A sub-circular ditched feature in a field to the northeast of Hampreston is visible as a cropmark on a 2002 aerial photograph (1).
The feature is one of four simlar features, being one of two situated closely adjacent to each other and approximately 9.6m in diameter. The features are visible within a broad spread of fairy rings and it is likely they are part of that formation but their character is possibly more archaeological in nature and they may be ring ditches of possibly late prehistoric origin. The features were not visible on any other available aerial photographs so this interpretation is very cautious in the light of no further available evidence.
The feature was digitally plotted from aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP.
