Full Description
A ditched linear feature at Longham is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature is narrow and rectilinear in form. It runs on a broadly east to west axis across a historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map but which may have been sub-divided prior to the late 19th Century as this feature appears to run perpendicular to and overlying a historic field boundary (MDO41333), removed by the late 19th Century where part of its line is marked by a short row of trees on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The feature is presumed to be a historic field boundary of probable late 19th Century to early modern origin.
The site is part of Dudsbury Golf Course on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted from 1940s aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
