Full Description

Ditched linear features to the north of Northbourne are visible on aerial photographs (1). The features comprise a series of narrow ditched linears situated within long narrow irregular enclosures recorded on the OS 1st Edition map (2). The features sub-divide the enclosures and correspond with, or link into, adjacent linear features also recorded on the OS 1st Edition map that appear to be historic field boundaries; some of which appear to have been in the form of drainage ditches (2). The features may also be historic field boundaries, possibly post medieval in date, although an earlier origin is also possible. Alternatively the features may be post medieval drainage ditches, or have served a dual function as both drainage ditches and field boundaries. The site is still fields on Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted from aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
