Full Description

Ditched linear features on Parley Common are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features are narrow and linear or slightly curvilinear in form. Some of the linears may form part of a series of narrow enclosures cut through by a later trackway, suggesting they may be historic field boundaries, probably of post medieval origin. These link in with further linears to the south, which may also be field boundaries of a similar date. It is possible, however, that all of these features may alternatively be post medieval trackways. The site is still Common on current Google Earth imagery although the features are not visible under the scrub vegetation. They were digitally plotted from aerial photographs by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
