Summary

An area of probable post medieval gravel extraction along the south bank of the River Stour at Ensbury, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

An area of probable post medieval gravel extraction along the south bank of the River Stour at Ensbury, Bournemouth, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1-2). The features comprise a long linear scarp with regular angled cuts along its southwest edge to create a shallow terrace along the edge of the riverbank, extending for approximately 506m (1-2). The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery and the featues remain faintly visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
