Full Description

A shallow sub-oval depression to the northeast of Lower Barford is visible on current Lidar imagery (1). The feature is 95m long by 46m wide. The OS 1st Edition map shows a series of four linked dotted enclosures at this location; visible as a tree-filled depression in 1946 (2-3). The feature visible on current Lidar imagery is larger than the enclosures extent and is likely to be an earlier feature, possibly a post medieval extractive pit. The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery; the feature is faintly visible as a cropmark/parchmark in some years. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
