Full Description

Low banked linear features to the south and southwest of Cowgrove Farm are faintly visible on current Lidar imagery (1). The features are broad and slightly curvilinear in form. The OS 1st Edition map suggests that the features occupy what may originally have been a large irregular field of possible medieval origin, which probably had some later sub-division during the post medieval period (2). The features broadly align with, or run perpendicular to, field boundaries extant on the OS 1st Edition map, but potentially underlie some of these (1 and 2). They are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of possible medieval date, although a later origin is also possible. A short ditched linear feature situated between two of the banked linear features and on the same alignment is visible as a cropmark in 2009 (3). This feature may also be a historic field boundary but may alternatively be a section of historic trackway. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
