Full Description
Banked linear features to the north of Lake Farm, Pamphill, are visible on current Lidar imagery (1).
The features comprise two parallel sections of broad linear banks set approximately 55m apart on an E-W axis. The southernmost linear is cut by a modern trackway, showing as a historic footpath on the OS 1st Edition map and suggesting a pre late 19th century date for the features (2).
A precise date and function for the features is uncertain but they may be field boundaries of possible medieval or earlier origin; they are of similar character to further banked linears to the south (MDO41036), although slightly broader in form. Alternatively they may be features associated with the Roman military site MDO5864.
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
