Full Description

A small post medieval extractive pit at Corfe Mullen is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature comprises a semi-circular pit 23.8m long by 15m wide. It is situated on the east side of what is now Wareham Road, on what was open rough ground on the OS 1st Edition map (2) and still open rough ground in 1947 (1). The site is under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
