Full Description
A small post medieval extractive pit at Corfe Mullen is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The feature comprises a semi-circular scarped depression 24m long by 15.6m wide. It is situated on what was recorded as open rough ground on the OS 1st Edition map (2). By 1947 it was located beside a road access to a house, still within an area of open rough ground (1).
The site is under housing on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible. It was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
