Full Description
A cluster of small post medieval extractive pits on open ground to the southwest of Corfe Mullen are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1-3). The features are now under the later Corfe Mullen Clay Pit.
The features comprise shallow pits and scarps and low banks extending over an area approximately 100m long by 65m wide. The extraction appears relatively shallow surface extraction, probably associated with post medieval gravel extraction. The features are situated on open rough ground (1-3).
The site is under the Corfe Mullen Clay Pit on current Google Earth imagery and the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
