Full Description
Linear banked and ditched earthworks on Barrow Hill, Corfe Mullen, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1).
The features comprise a central narrow linear ditch with a loosely zig-zagged character and flanking sections of bank whose irregular form suggest they were constructed from cast up earth. There is a small irregular banked earthwork at either end of the linears and assumed to be associated with them. The features extend SW to NE along the southwest side of Barrow Hill for around 153m and their character is typical of modern military practice trenches.
The site is still open ground on current Google Earth imagery but the features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
