Summary

Ditched and banked features at Corfe Hills, Corfe Mullen, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs. The features are considered likely to be part of a late 19th or early 20th Century Golf Course; there are neighbouring features which have continued in use as part of Broadstone Golf Course but these features are now in disuse, although still visible under scrubby vegetation. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

Ditched and banked features at Corfe Hills, Corfe Mullen, are visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The features comprise a two low sub-rectangular banks and two irregular ditched depressions positioned in a loose row on a SW-NE alignment. They are situated on an area of still open heathland in 1946 (1). Neighbouring features of similar form are now asimilated into the modern day Broadstone Golf Course and are still in use. The features are considered likely to be part of a late 19th or early 20th Century Golf Course at this location; they are now in disuse, although still visible on current Google Earth imagery under scrubby vegetation. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
