Full Description

A post medieval extractive pit on open heathland at Corfe Hills, Corfe Mullen, is visible on 1940s aerial photographs (1). The feature comprises a crescent-shaped hollow 14m long by 7m deep, situated against the west side of a post medieval trackway. The site is under trees on current Google Earth imagery and the feature is no longer visible, although a faint hollow at this location is visible on current Lidar imagery (2). The feature was digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
