Summary

An area of probable post medieval extraction to the northeast of New Barn Farm is visible on aerial photographs. An old quarry is recorded at this location on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map but the area of probable extraction appears to extend further east, west and south on a 1946 aerial photograph, covering an area of approximately 196m by 192m. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description

An area of probable post medieval extraction to the northeast of New Barn Farm is visible on aerial photographs (1-2). The features comprise two linear hollows and additional scarps covering an area of approximately 196m by 192m and extending beyond, and under, a historic field boundary of probbale post medieval origin towards their west side. An old quarry is recorded at this location on the OS 1st Edition map but the area of probable extraction appears to extend further east, west and south on a 1946 aerial photograph (1). The site is partly still fields and partly under tree cover on current Google Earth imagery. The features are no longer visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
