Monument record MDO41814 - Probable historic field boundaries, Kingston Lacy, Pamphill
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Banked and ditched linear features to the northeast of Kingston Lacy House are visible on current Lidar imagery. The features are presumed likely to be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date. The features appear to post date earthworks potentially associated with the deserted medieval settlement of Kingston Lacy (MDO5924) but presumably pre-date the laying out of the formal post medieval parkland. A possible alternative is that the features are former post medieval drives or approaches to the post medieval house. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description
Banked and ditched linear features to the northeast of Kingston Lacy House are visible on current Lidar imagery (1).
The features comprise sections of broad linear banks that extend NNE and ENE from the north side of Kingston Lacy House. The features are regular in form, with the SW end of one of the linears having a slight curve towards Kingston Lacy House; narrow flanking ditches are also visible on the north side of this linear at this SW end (1).
The features do not appear to have any relationship with the historic parkland landscape as recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, although the southeasternmost linear corresponds with a bridge over a water channel leading to an ornamental pond (2). The features do however appear to post date earthworks potentially associated with the deserted medieval settlement of Kingston Lacy (MDO5924) but presumably pre-date the laying out of the formal post medieval parkland.
They are presumed likely to be historic field boundaries of possible post medieval date. A possible alternative is that the features are former post medieval drives or approaches to the post medieval house.
The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
