Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Ditched linear features in Abbott Street Copse are visible on current Lidar imagery. The features are considered likely to be hollow ways of probable medieval date, recorded under NHRE Hob UID 209495. The northernmost hollow way runs for a distance of over 235m from West to East, through the copse and beyond into the field to the east. It cuts the north side of an earthwork or enclosure (MDO5891) of uncertain date and cuts through the agger and ditches of the Roman Road from Badbury Rings to Poole (NHRE Hob UID 1357593). The southernmost hollow way may incorporate part of the outer ditch of enclosure (MDO5891) and it too cuts the Roman road from NE to SW. The features were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.

Full Description
Hollow-way traceable for some 220.0m through a small copse, 0.5m to 0.8m in depth and some 9.0m wide. It appears to be connected with the earthwork (ST 90 SE 15) and is apparently post Roman in date, as it cuts through the agger of the Roman Road (RR 4d). The course of the hollow-way can be traced for some 25.0m through a pasture field to the NE. <2>
Hollow-way, joined by another W of the enclosure (ST 90SE 15) which they appear to post date. The northern hollow-way crosses the ditch of the enclosure and, a short distance to the E, cuts the agger of the Roman Road from Hamworthy to Badbury Rings. <3>
