Full Description
Ditched linear features at Little Pamphill are visible on aerial photographs and current Lidar imagery (1-2).
The features comprise several sections of narrow curvilinear ditches aligned SW-NE within a large irregular historic enclosure recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, whose irregular boundaries suggest a probable medieval origin (3). The linear features may also be historic field boundaries, and possibly drainage ditches, possibly of post medieval date although an earlier origin is certainly possible.
On the same alignment as the ditched linears are two areas of parallel ditched linears that may also be post medievaldrainage ditches but which may alternatively be historic ridge and furrow cultivation.
The site is still open fields on current Google Earth imagery and the features are still visible. They were digitally plotted by the Dorset Stour NMP project.
