Monument record MDO41882 - Medieval occupation, Walford Bridge Garage, East Borough, Wimborne Minster
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Evidence of medieval occupation revealed during archaeological work before development of the site in 2017. This comprised two parallell ditches running south-west to north-east and a pit. The filling of one ditch contained pottery of mid-13th to 16th-century date (Dorset Quartz-rich Sandy Ware and Laverstock Ware). No dating evidence was found in the second ditch, but the form and filling of the ditches was very similar, and they were interpreted as broadly the same date. The filling of the pit contained small pieces of charcoal and animal bone. No dateable artefacts were recovered from the pit but it was cut by, and so must be earlier than, one of the ditches.
