Monument record MDO4194 - Bowl barrow east of Blandford Reservoir, Langton Long Blandford and Tarrant Monkton

Summary
The remains of a bowl barrow. The barrow mound measures 15 metres in diameter and 1.5 metres high. The surrounding ditch survives as a slight depression on the north eastern side. A hollow in the top of the mound may indicate past excavation. The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.
The feature is visible as a sub-oval earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project.

A bowl barrow on the parish boundary with Tarrant Monkton. It is 50 ft in diameter and 5 ft high. <3>
ST 91260732. The remains of a bowl barrow. The barrow mound measures 15 metres in diameter and 1.5 metres high. The surrounding ditch survives as a slight depression on the north eastern side. A hollow in the top of the mound may indicate past excavation. Scheduling amended. <5>
A bowl barrow 620m south east of Langton Lodge Farm. The barrow lies on the crest of a chalk ridge within Blandford Camp on the parish boundary between Langton Long Blandford and Tarrant Monkton. The barrow has a mound 15m in diameter and 1.5m high, surrounded by a quarry ditch, from which material was derived for its construction, visible as a slight depression on the north eastern side but elsewhere surviving as a buried feature 2m wide. A slight depression on the top of the mound may indicate former excavation although there are no records of any finds.
In 1972 this monument was reported as having a diameter of around 50 feet and a mound standing approximately 5 feet high.
The record for this monument has been enhanced with support from Wessex Water.
The feature is visible as a sub-oval earthwork on Environment Agency lidar imagery and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AIM Project [7].
