The site of a Second World War military camp is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947 to the northeast of Maiden Newton between the village and the Wiltshire Somerset and Weymouth Railway. The site was digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valleys AIM project.

The site of a Second World War military camp is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1947 to the northeast of Maiden Newton between the village and the Wiltshire Somerset and Weymouth Railway [1]. The site which comprised at least 40 temporary buildings was digitally plotted during the Upper Frome and Sydling Valleys AIM project. The structures have been removed and much of the site is now built over [2].
