Monument record MDO42609 - Second World War HFDF station, Timber Hill, Lyme Regis

The Pillbox Study Group report that a HFDF (High Frequency Direction Finding, also referred to as "Pip-Squeak") station formerly stood at this location. The station can be seen on RAF vertical aerial photographs dated 1948, comprising a standing hexagonal tower and a square structure - possibly the operations room- a short distance to the SSE. Although the station has been removed, The hexagonal base of its tower can still be discerned, although its materials and condition is not known. The original wooden superstructure was apparently later moved to a local school.

The putative operations block has been removed (it is likely this structure that was reported moved to a nearby school), and the area has been redeveloped as part of a golf course. Somewhat to the west, in the same field, are what appear to be two - possibly three- north-south aligned lengths of trench, possibly serving as an air raid shelter?) A website link to the original source reference listed by the PSG appears now to be broken.
