Monument record MDO42696 - Possible Second World War roadblock on Stokes Avenue, Longfleet, Poole

Please read our .

Summary

The Pilbox Study Group note the site of a probable Second World War roadblock at the eastern end of Stokes Avenue (laid out but yet to be developed in 1947) adjacent to its junction with the B3093 Wimborne Road. The roadblock is inferred from RAF aerial photographs dated January 1947, and probably formed part of a stop-line of concrete anti-tank blocks to either side of Wimborne Road and turning NNE across former allottment gardens to link with a large drain or anti-tank ditch south of Mellstock Road (and now east of Oakdale Junior School).
