Summary

The Pilbox Study Group note the site of a probable Second World War roadblock on the sunken lane of Barnes Way, south of its intersection with the B3144 Prince of Wales Road and adjacent to its underpass beneath the Weymouth to London Waterloo railway line. The roadblock is inferred from RAF aerial photographs dated January 1947 . It was presumably intended to control a strategic north-south access routa across the railway line.
