Monument record MDO42707 - Second World War roadblock on Salisbury Road, Burton, Christchurch
Please read our guidance about the use of Dorset Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
The Pilbox Study Group note the presence of a Second World War roadblock on Salisbury Road at its crossing under the Weymouth to London Waterloo railway line. The block is listed on a map of the defences associated with the Christchurch Anti-Tank Island reproduced by M A Edgington, and was presumably intended to control a north-south access point across the railway line, which is embanked at this point.
