Monument record MDO42768 - Former Second World War pillbox at Custom House Quay, Weymouth

Please read our .

Summary

The Pillbox Study Group list the former presence of a type FW3/22 pillbox at or about this location, visible on wartime photographs of US trpoops embarking for the D Day landings in 1944 (no photographic reference listed). No pillbox is obvious at this point on RAF vertical photographs dated November 1946, but the quality of close detail for this area is relatively poor, and it is anyway entirely possible that a pillbox could already have been removed from a working, urban rail-side/quayside position by late 1946.
