Summary

A Second World War Type 22 pillbox is visible as an octagonal structure on 1940s aerial photographs at the entrance to a railway tunnel at Frampton. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. A type 22 pillbox located at the top of the railway cutting at the entrance to the railway tunnel. It was constructed between 1940-41 and is of standard brick and concrete. A field visit in 1997 found the pillbox to be in good condition.

Full Description

Type 22 pillbox located at the top of the railway cutting at the entrance to the railway tunnel at Frampton. Outside the entrance is a trench which allows access to the entrance and which also may have been used for protective firing cover for the rear. 3 embrasures are positioned in 3 walls. Standard brick and concrete construction, with internal blast wall.
