Summary
Sub-circular pits are visible as earthworks and cropmarks on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on Grimstone Down, Stratton. Two of the larger features are recorded as a chalk pit and old chalk pit on the OS 1st Edition map. The features are considered all likely to be post medieval chalk pits and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description
Sub-circular pits are visible as cropmarks and earthworks on aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on Grimstone Down, Stratton (1, 2). Two of the larger features are recorded as a chalk pit and old chalk pit on the OS 1st Edition map (3). The features are considered all likely to be post medieval chalk pits and were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
Some, but not all, of the features are still visible as earthworks and cropmarks on 2008 Google Earth imagery (4).
