Monument record MDO42899 - Second World War anti tank obstacle, Maiden Newton

A row of anti tank cubes is visible extending north westwards from the western end of a regular banked linear earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs to the south of Maiden Newton. The features may be related, together forming a Second World War defensive feature, probably an anti tank obstacle. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

A row of anti tank cubes is visible extending north westwards from the western end of a regular banked linear earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs to the south of Maiden Newton. The form of the linear bank is broad and concave and very regular, measuring approximately 6m wide by 35m long, The anti tank cubes extend for just under 35m northwest, into the edge of an early 20th century housing estate, finishing at the corner of one of the houses. The features may be related, together forming a Second World War defensive feature, probably an anti tank obstacle. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. They are built over and no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
