A sub-rectangular pit is visible as an earthwork on 1940s aerial photographs and on current Lidar imagery on South Field Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1, 2). The feature comprises outer sub-rectangular banks containing a shallow hollowed interior approximately 4m by 3.5m. It may be a post medieval chalk pit or alternatively, a pond - it is similar in form to other such earthworks in the area, visible on aerial photographs and recorded as ponds on the OS 1st Edition map. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The feature is also visible on current Google Earth imagery.
