Summary

Banked and ditched linear features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on Great Head, Batcombe. The features are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date. They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Banked and ditched linear features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on Great Head, Batcombe (1). The features are very narrow and regular in character and are considered likely to be historic field boundaries of probable post medieval date. The features appear to overlie earthworks associated with a post medieval extractive pit (MDO43028) to the west.They were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. The features are under trees and no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
