Full Description
Several small banked linear features are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on Row Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1, 2). The features comprise five short sections of linear bank, 12-13.5m long and positioned in three groups, roughly equidistant at around 80m apart. Two sets of banks are parallel and adjacent to each other. They are situated on the east side of a trackway recorded on the OS 1st Edition map, however the northernmost and singular bank appears to overlie it - indicating a possible late post medieval/modern date. An area of possible quarrying (MDO43059) is situated to the west and an area of Second World War military activity/camp and a military hospital is situated close by on Wardon Hill to the northwest (NRHE Hob UID 1416128; MDO43058). Trackways are visible extending between the features and the north eastern area of the military camp and it is possible the two are associated. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
The features are no longer visible on current Google Earth imagery.
