Summary
A series of sub-circular ditched features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on Buckland Down, Sydling St Nicholas. One of the features is recorded as a chalk pit on the OS 1st Edition map and the remaining features may also be chalk pits, probably of post medieval date. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

A series of sub-circular ditched features are visible as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs on Buckland Down, Sydling St Nicholas (1, 2). One of the features is recorded as a chalk pit on the OS 1st Edition map and the remaining features may also be chalk pits, probably of post medieval date (3). The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.
Some of the features are still variously visible as earthworks and cropmarks on Google Earth imagery.
