Full Description

Field systems: Taken from Air photos in January-March 1949. <1> This field system has been almost completely eradicated and only vague and scattered traces remains. Fields centred SY 63569275, SY 63849267, SY 64009276, SY 64159267 and SY 63669162 were under crops. No trace noticed. At SY 64919227 - one curving lynchet 1.2 metres high and the remainder in that field scattered, vaguely rectilinear and average 0.3 metres high. At SY 64519270 - one straight long lynchet 1.0 metres high. At SY 64509254 - one short lynchet 1.4 metres high. At SY 63629242 - An angular lynchet 0.7 metres high. At SY 63509130 - short vague lynchets forming no pattern. At SY 63409267 - angular lynchets forming no pattern, spread by ploughing, but marked by grass colouring. Up to 0.5 metres high. Elsewhere no trace was found. <2> The former field system has been destroyed by ploughing, save for a half dozen widespread lynchets, and these have been smoothed. <3> Slight earthworks and cropmarks of a fragmented Iron Age or Romano-British field system visible as cropmarks and low earthworks on aerial photographs.
