Summary

Areas of ridged and ditched cultivation are visible as earthworks on a 1971 aerial photograph on Ayles's Hill, Sydling St Nicholas. The features may be those of medieval broad ridge and furrow, although a later origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project.

Full Description

Areas of ridged and ditched cultivation are visible as earthworks on a 1971 aerial photograph on Ayles's Hill, Sydling St Nicholas (1). The features comprise two areas of slighlty curvilinear cultivation ridges, approximately 4.5m broad. They may be those of medieval broad ridge and furrow, although a later origin is also possible. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. The features are no longer visible on Google Earth imagery.
