Full Description

52 anti-tank blocks - 30 blocks on the W side of the railway line, 22 on the E. Dimensions, 42ins square, 16ins apex, 4ft between each, 4ft high, constructed in 8ins horizontal bands. All are in excellent condition. They protect the W side of Maiden Newton where a steep railway cutting finishes and embankment begins.Top of Chilfrome Lane at the edge of the old railway line, Maiden Newton. <1-3> Two rows of anti tank cubes are visible extending along two sides of the railway line to the north of Maiden Newton on 1940s aerial photographs <4>. The anti tank cubes extend for over 50m on either side of the line, and form one of a series of similar obstacles positioned along stretches of the railway line at Maiden Newton, probably forming part of a Second World War Stop Line. The features were digitally plotted during the Dorset Upper Frome AIM project. The feature are still partially visible on 2002 Google Earth imagery <5>.
