Full Description

ST 753016. A group of contour type strip lynchets, part of the former open-field system of Melcombe Horsey (ST 70 SW 38). <1-3> ST 75250150. A well preserved, and visually striking flight of six contour following Medieval type strip lynchets, curve for about 150.0m. around the steep south facing side of a small spur. The grass covered terrace are between 6.0m. and 12.0m. wide with risers up to 3.5m. high. Clearly visible on OS air photographs <4.1-4.2>. ST 75350160. to ST 75350180. Less well defined lynchets extend for 200.0m. northwards following the natural curve of the slope. Best preserved lynchets depicted on 25" M.S.D. <4>
