Full Description

Field systems taken from air photos in 1949 by R J C Atkinson. <1> ‘A’: Centred at ST 814070; 'B': Centred at ST 819063. Two areas of Iron Age/Romano-British type fields, visible on air photograph CPE/UK/2431/4335. 'A' Low field banks and lynchets forming small irregular fields are visible on the ground, under rough pasture and scrub trees. 'B'. This area is almost entirely under crops; only very scattered prominent lynchets are visible. <2> Traces of Iron Age/Roman-British 'Celtic' fields extend north from Winterborne Stickland. (Shown on RCHM plan to be part of the area 'B' delineated by Authy 2; 'Celtic' fields are not shown as continuing into area 'A' of Authy 2). See also ST 80 NW 23. <3>
