Monument record MDO4370 - Bowl barrow south of West Bagber Copse, Milborne St Andrew

Summary
A bowl barrow 420 metres north west of Frogmore Farm. The barrow has been almost levelled by ploughing but survives as a low mound around 17 metres in diameter and 0.2 metres high. Possibly the barrow opened by H Durden in 1864. Durden opened a barrow in the NW of the parish and found two skeletons and at least twelve urns, mostly inverted, containing cremations.

Full Description
A barrow situated on the north-west side of the parish of Milborne St Andrew was excavated by Mr Durden in 1864. It measured 12 ft high and 60 ft in circumference, and produced two skeletons, 12-14 urns of various sizes and ornamentations, mostly inverted and containing cremations. Two of the urns were recovered whilst the remainder were destroyed. <1>
No information was obtained to show where the barrow opened by Durden is or was situated. <2>
Grass covered ditchless bowl barrow 20.0 metres diameter by 0.3 metre high. <2>
Bowl barrow (79029938), 80 yds S of West Bagber Copse, lies on a gentle slope overlooking a shallow combe to the E. Very heavily ploughed. Diam about 50ft ht 1 ft. <4>
