Summary

A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a soilmark on aerial photographs. The site is defined by a single ring ditch with a break to the south-east which almost encloses a circular area measuring circa 17.5m in diameter. Total diameter is circa 19m. The size and shape of the enclosure suggests that it is the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M project.

Full Description

A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a soilmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9353 0937 and is defined by a single ring ditch with a break to the south-east which almost encloses a circular area measuring circa 17.5m in diameter. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it is the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, several of which are known in this area. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. <1, 1.1, 2, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3> A probable Bronze Age barrow is visible c 546m to the southwest of Dairy Farm, Tarrant Launceston, as a circular annular cropmark c19m in diameter on an aerial photograph dated 1999 <3>. A smaller partial circular annular cropmark visible adjacent to the south of the feature on a 1976 aerial photograph <1, 1.1> may be a further barrow (see MDO43802). The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M project.
