Monument record MDO43804 - Bronze Age round barrow, northwest of Tarrant Monkton, Tarrant Launceston

Summary
A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is defined by a single ring ditch which completely encloses a circular area measuring 10m in diameter. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it is the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit.

Full Description
A probable Bronze Age round barrow is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. The site is centred at ST 9412 0918 and is defined by a single ring ditch which completely encloses a circular area measuring 10m in diameter. The size and shape of the enclosure suggest that it is the plough levelled remains of a Bronze Age round barrow, several of which are known in this area. There is no sign of any barrow mound or other internal feature such as a funerary deposit. <1, 1.1, 2, 2.1>
A probable Bronze Age barrow is visible c 300m to the northwest of Tarrant Monkton, Tarrant Launceston, as a circular annular cropmark c 14.5m in diameter on an aerial photograph dated 1969 <3>. A small circular depression c 2.5m in diameter is visible in the centre of the feature.
The feature was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour AI&M project.
