Monument record MDO44121 - Bronze Age round barrow, north west of Swan Way Copse, Shapwick

The potential site of a Bronze Age round barrow is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs to the north west of Swan Way Copse, Shapwick. It is one of a group of barrows forming a barrow cemetery which includes those described in MDO 37337-9. It was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project.

A ring ditch, part of a linear group, is visible as a cropmark on air photographs taken July 25th 2001. Circa 16 metres in diameter, it lies 25 metres northeast of the more closely spaced line represented by ST 90 SW 126-9, and 3 metres west of ST 90 SW 131. (1) A ring ditch, 14m across, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs to the north west of Swan Way Copse, Shapwick (1). It is potentially the site of a Bronze Age round barrow and is located immediately to the southeast of MDO37337 and appears to be cut buy the boundary or trackway described in MDO44122. It forms part of a wider barrow cemetery which includes those described in MDO 37337-9 and was digitally plotted during the Dorset Middle Stour Catchment AI&M Project.
