Find Spot record MDO44390 - Prehistoric flint implements found at East Farm, Bradford Abbas

Professor Buckman collected a number of flint implements from East Farm. Some of these were exhibited at the Royal Archaeological Institute in 1898, and included scrapers and a leaf-shaped arrowhead. These finds are likely to have come from more than one place around the farm, and the exact findspots are not known.

Prof. BUCKMAN has several leaf-shaped arrowheads from the neighbourhood of BRADFORD ABBAS. <1> [MARGINAL]. As exhibiton of flints found at Prof. BUCKMANS farm (EAST FARM, BRADFORD ABBAS) was given at the ROYAL ARCH. INSTITUTE. The flints included numerous scrapers, and arrow-heads, though in the case of the latter only one example has any approach to the formation of barbs. [A leaf shaped arrowhead is illustrated as a sample of the finds.] "Two portions..[of axes] show the outline and polish of a portion of a celt … [as if] they were broken implements of that class from which flakes had been struck off" and the implements used as cores. <2> No further information was obtained on the provenance or present location of these flints which from T.1. apparently consisted of possible Ne. axes, leaf-shaped arrowheads, one probably barbed arrowhead, and scrapers. <3> Graphical material omitted. <4>
