Summary
Site of a World War II underground auxiliary unit operational base located in a copse near Stourpaine Down, some 100 feet from the road to Shaftesbury. It was constructed in 1940-41 and by 1949 was described as being in a dangerous condition. The precise location and condition of the base is now uncertain.

Full Description
TDW/1157 (Ministry of Town and Country Planning reference). Cassini grid 41/12 NE 323308. Underground shelter considered for destruction as public danger, 1949. Described as being in 'dangerous condition. The Army had made 'an attempt at destruction'. In copse near Stourpaine Down, some 100ft from road to Shaftesbury. <1>
