Full Description
A mansion-house, probably built by Sir Thomas Freke (1563-1633), stood near the middle of the parish and was a large house built of stone. It was taken down by Peter William Baker (1756-1814). <1>
ST 85961237 An area of very mutilated foundations, 30.0m by 20.0m, to the south west of Iwerne Courtney church was stated by the rector to be the site of the mansion, and this is confirmed by the situation near the church, the extent of the remains and the existence of a stone-lined well nearby. Fragments of walling, up to 0.6m high, and 1.0m thick are visible, but remodelling as a rockery prevents the size and precise shape of the building from being deduced. <2>
